Our curriculum foundation is “Creative Curriculum” fourth edition by Diane Trister Dodge, Laura J. Colker and Cate Heroman. Our knowledge base and this curriculum selection is utilized by age groups and is child‑sensitive and responsive to individual patterns of growth, development, learning and interests. This curriculum supports the teacher’s in designing the activity centers located in each classroom. In the activity centers, children additionally learn social skills in playing and working with other children.
Each class is divided into interest areas for children who want to explore, make things, and experiment. These areas will include: blocks, dramatic play, art, library, discovery (science), sand & water, music & movement, math, writing, toys & games, and a cozy area to be in a quiet place.
The children will have productive play experiences that will help them grow in: social/emotional skills, physical development, cognitive development, and language development.
There will be time each day for the children to meet for group time. During this time the group will talk about the day and plan for the day, listen to stories, and sing songs.

Outdoor learning is child’s play but here they also learn and develop their skills as an extension of what is taking place inside the classroom.
Woven into the curriculum will be units that our Center will use at each child’s developmental stage. For example, during August our unit will be called “The Sea.” Examples may include a toddler touching sand with his toes, or playing with colored (plastic) fish in the water. A two-year old child may use their fingers to paint a sea, or count gold fish crackers as they eat them. Three year olds may count seashells and go fishing in the water table. Four year olds may compose a list of things to take on a beach trip or dress up in dramatic play to go to the beach, or categorize seashells by their shape.
The learning themes change every few weeks to hold the children’s interest in playing while learning. Parents are given an activity sheet of each unit in order to follow up with family discussions as to what their child is endeavoring to learn in their classroom.
As a next door neighbor to an elementary school, we will integrate their structure for teaching character building and behavior management into our plan in the four year old classroom setting. Our goal is clear, give them the “head start” for success as a Kindergartner for a greater chance at adding to their educational value in that classroom setting.
We view ourselves as an extension of your family and our role is to broaden and deepen your child’s knowledge with new “first hand” experiences. We will provide experiences in a variety of media, such as drawing, painting, construction, dramatic play, fine and gross motor skills; and promote social interactions to assist with verbal language and written descriptions.
Thank you for allowing us this educational opportunity with your child.
